May 7 - Treat Yourself

Hopefully, you have a few new journal entries in your summer journal and you have found time to truly reflect on your life and the things that make you happy.

The challenge today is simple!

Yes, you heard right!  Have a cupcake, go for a manicure, take a bubble bath, pop some popcorn, get a massage, go to a matinee, take a nap!  Buy yourself a special gift; jewelry, shoes, a new bag, music, etc.

"Why?", may you ask.  Let me explain, every time I reflect on my life, I tend to scrutinize the decisions I have made.  I wonder if I am headed down the right path, if I am making the right choices, if I am doing the best that I can.  Simply, too much time reflecting on one's life can be exhausting and can leave you feeling a little down in the dumps.

WELL, cheer yourself up and don't allow yourself to regret past decisions.  The point of this is to move forward with a strong understanding of where you are and where you want to go.  So, treat yourself to something special today.  In fact, if you are on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook...take a picture of it and tag your picture with #LMLP so we can see how you chose to treat yourself.  :)

As a treat to our readers, we are offering a special giveaway from one of our sponsors.  Darker Blue is the wonderful sponsor and we are so excited to have them this summer!  You can find some lovely items on their Etsy shop, just click on their logo to the left.  Darker Blue is offering this lovely bracelet...

This giveaway will be available until Friday, May 11th @ 8:00 pm MST.  Here are the three different ways you can enter the giveaway...
  1. Leave a comment below and let us know in what way you live your life to the fullest.
  2. Favorite our sponsor's Etsy shop (Darker Blue).  Make sure to note it in your comment!
  3. Like the Live My Life Project on Facebook (LMLP), twitter (@LiveMLP), or subscribe to the blog.  Make sure to note it in your comment!
Good luck!

June 30 - Don't Worry & Giveaway

Well, we started the month off with Bob Marley and now we are ending the month with him.  This song suggestion comes from my brother John and I think it makes a fitting end for the month.  The message is perfect:

"Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"

Rise up this mornin',
Smiled with the risin' sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', ("This is my message to you-ou-ou:")

I have loved this month, the challenges that have gone along with the songs, and the music!  What great music and what great song suggestions!  Thank you to everyone who has participated and helped to make this month a great one.

I have been desperately waiting for our giveaway, which was being donated by a local radio station, to arrive in the mail...but nothing.  UGH!  Hopefully I hear from them soon and we can give them away in July.  But that won't stop us from having a giveaway!  We will be giving away a $30 gift card to Amazon.com!!  Woo, woo!  Oh yeah!  To enter,

June 17 - Beatbox

This song suggestion comes from Lorien!  It's from a band called The Sounds and the song is all about the awesomeness of the beatbox.  Which, in my opinion, is one of the quintessential symbols of the 80's, soooo....today is 80's day!  Woo!  Pull out the leg warmers, shirt belts, fingerless gloves, jelly shoes, side ponytails, track suits and mismatched tube socks; because today we are celebrating all things 80's.

Today, we are also having a giveaway!  Leave a comment and tell us what your favorite 80's symbol was; maybe it was a movie, artist, tv show, or fashion piece!  One of today's comments will receive a digital download of The Sounds newest album, Something to Die For.  This is only a one day giveaway, so comments must be in by midnight tonight.  Today's winner will also be entered in to the BIG end of the month contest!  So good luck!

Day 31 - Write a Letter to Your Future Self & A Giveaway

There are times when I wish I could go back to my younger self and just have a pep talk with her.  I would tell her that boys will be boys and that her heart will eventually heal.  I would explain the importance of being financially responsible and avoiding those dang credit cards.  I would urge her to take care of her health, eat right and exercise.  I would let her know that amazing things are in her future, so don't spend too much time stressing over what's to come and to go have FUN instead.

However, since we can't go back in time, we can still in some way talk to our future self.  So at some point today, sit down and write a letter to your future self.  Maybe it's a letter of encouragement...something to open when things get tough.  Maybe it's a letter full of dreams...something to open when things get dull.  Maybe it's a letter of accomplishment...something to open when things don't pan out.  Whatever the premise of the letter, make sure it has a purpose and will be inspirational to that future self.  :)

Being the last day of the May challenges, I have a fun giveaway for you.  First off, thank you to everyone who have shared with me their love and support.  I'm humbled by it.  Second, stick with us for another month...we've got fun challenges coming up in June!

Okay for the giveaway, I'm giving one of you a lovely leather bound journal from Flamboyan Handmade.

They are so pretty!  And I hope to send this to one of you soon.  Simply follow the instructions below...
  • Leave a comment and share with us your favorite challenge from the month of May.

Day 20 - Create & Giveaway

I'm so excited about today's challenge.  I thought about the first time I sat down to color with my son.  It had been years since I last colored anything, perhaps in junior high.  I forgot what it felt like to choose your colors, stay within the lines (or not) and simply create.  It was so fun and the moment became a bonding one for us.

So for today's challenge, spend time creating something and expressing yourself through that creation.  To help get your juices flowing, I'd like to introduce you to Lee!  She is the blog writer of *A Blissful Whirl*, the stylist behind some of the Maddie E photo shoots that I love and a hula hoop artist (Which we will get to soon)!  I sent off a few questions to Lee, in the hopes that I would find inspiration for this Project and boy did she deliver!!!  Here are those questions...

LMLP:  You mentioned that you have been trying to live your life to its fullest all year, what made you decide that it was time for you to do this?

Lee:  At the New Year, I began to think about all the things I wanted and dreamed of.  It came down to authenticity, being the person I've always wanted to be.  Being true to who I am brings me happiness.  I knew it was going to take making some changes and working hard to get there.  For so long I've let fears hold me back and realized I have to do it for myself.

LMLP:  Since actively trying to do this, what moment stands out as the most rewarding?

Lee:  I can't say at this point there has been a specific moment.  It's noticing that I am happier, calmer, more centered and balanced.  I like to see that little changes can add up to a big difference and gets me closer to my goals.

LMLP:  I know how much you love music, do you have a theme song or a soundtrack for your life?  A go to song when things get rough?

Lee:  Music feeds my soul.  It's such an outlet for me :).  I am not a huge country fan, but I think one of the songs that constantly reminds me of what's important is "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack; Don't settle.  Take chances.  Be full of wonder and curiosity.  Be grateful.  It's ok to make mistakes.  Don't let fears and past experiences hold you back from happiness now.  Be in the moment.

LMLP:  The challenge for today is to find a creative outlet for self-expression.  You are one of the most creative people I know, what are some outlets you use to express yourself?

Lee:  Without a doubt, hula hooping.  Hoop dancing has transformed me in ways I never imagined.  It has helped me become more confident and daring.  Being inside the hoop is meditative and expressive!  I can work through a lot of the negativity in my head and come to more positive affirmations and goals on a daily basis.  I work with Maddie Thomas of Maddie Thomas Photography doing stylings for couple and lifestyle shoots.  I love helping clients create a fun way to capture meaningful moments of their lives.  Also, I write out thoughts and doodles for my life in a notebook I always keep with me.  I have a box filled with notebooks of ideas, rants, musings and lists.  Helps me to get it all out and organized!

LMLP:  How important is it for you to find time each day to create?  What are you working on right now?

Lee:  It's very important.  I don't feel complete unless I have some kind of a project going on!  Or two.  Or three :).  A painting, trying to knit (again for the umptenth time), taking pictures, baking or cooking something delicious, trying a new dance move, or making random accessories and trinkets.  Right now I am focused on custom hula hoops and paper mobiles.  I hope to open an Etsy shop of fun goodies soon!

How GREAT were those answers?  Lee was kind enough to make my son and I custom hula hoops, on top of which she took a few minutes out of her day to give us a quick tutorial and demonstration.  AMAZING!!  It was so fun to practice along side her and watch her amazing tricks.  My son even said, "Wow you could be in a circus."  Lee responded that she plans to learn and master the trapeze next.  So inspiring.

Lee is also offering one of her custom hula hoops to you!!  HOW FABULOUS!!!  Simply follow the steps below to enter!  And good luck!!

  1. Leave a comment on this post.  In your comment mention one of your own creative outlets and also, what color/s you would like your hula hoop to be.
  2. Spread the word about the Live My Life Project through a blog post, facebook post or a tweet!  It's totally up to you!  Don't forget to mention today's challenge and Lee's giveaway.  :)
  3. You have till Sunday night at midnight.  The winner will be announced Monday afternoon at noon!
  4. Remember that the comments have to be approved, so if you don't see your comment don't worry. It will be approved shortly.  :)

Have fun today!  And thank you to Lee for her time and gift!!

Have you ever seen a movie that in some way changed your life?  What about a movie that made you laugh so hard you almost peed your pants?  What about a movie that made you cry and laugh at the same time...that movie was Steel Magnolias for me!  I remember the first time I saw Crash, The Green Mile, 50 First Dates, Love Actually, the Ewok Movies (I really thought they were real!), Garden State...I could go on for days.  So at some point today take a moment to watch a movie, pop some popcorn, grab some treats and enjoy it!
