June 30 - Don't Worry & Giveaway

Well, we started the month off with Bob Marley and now we are ending the month with him.  This song suggestion comes from my brother John and I think it makes a fitting end for the month.  The message is perfect:

June 24th - Road Trip

Get!  Hit the open road!  Don't hesitate, don't plan it, just grab some oranges, some water bottles, some gas and drive.  It'll be an adventure!  Go until you can't go any more.  Sleep in your car if you have to.  Or come back in time for bedtime.  Either way, open your window and feel the breeze against your face.  Turn up your tunes, in fact try this one on for size!

June 23rd - Write a love letter!

This song has gotten me through many self pity parties.  Shit happens, but it's okay!  We'll get past it or we'll learn from it; either way today's trials will inevitably be in the past come the next sunrise?  So float on my friends and remember that "this too shall pass."

When I lived in New Jersey, it was common to take a stroll through the neighborhood and compliment the neighbor on their lawn, or the girl at the coffee shop on her cute blouse, and simply take the surroundings in.  I don't do that here, I come home from work and do just about nothing.  So if you have time tonight, take a stroll through your neighborhood or city and enjoy the wonders of your part of the world.

Challenge Result for June 18th

Sorry I didn't have a post up for yesterday, we were having too much fun living our day to the fullest.  We started the day with a hike through Bells Canyon with our friend Melanie.  Daniel discovered a lizard and new flowers along the trail.  I unfortunately was huffing and puffing too much to actually discover much other than, I did discover that I like to hike.  I really do like it!

The day's challenge was centered around U2's song Beautiful Day; mainly the following lyrics:

Yay Ela! Thanks posting one of my favorite bands...one of my favorite things to wear as a kid (in the 80's) were the pop it bracelets and necklaces, neon plastic beads you "popped" together to form jewelry... So luxurious!

This song suggestion comes from Lorien!  It's from a band called The Sounds and the song is all about the awesomeness of the beatbox.  Which, in my opinion, is one of the quintessential symbols of the 80's, soooo....today is 80's day!  Woo!  Pull out the leg warmers, shirt belts, fingerless gloves, jelly shoes, side ponytails, track suits and mismatched tube socks; because today we are celebrating all things 80's.

This song suggestion comes from my friend Grady!  Are you guys ready for some FUNK?!?!  Well, here you go...The Funkadelics...

So this song has a lot of lyrics that have to do with being financially irresponsible.  "When you base your love on credit...later come back signed "insufficient funds"".  It's so perfect for a challenge!  Are you a frugal person, do you spend money like tomorrow will be the apocolypse, do you need to take a minute and figure your budget?  Well, take an hour or two today and take care of it, get to a point of financial relaxation.  Financial stress, a lot of times, comes from a place of ignorance...not knowing when bills are due, or even what bills you have.  So sit down, write it all out and then relax knowing it's all organized.

June 11 - New Shoes & Giveaway

June 8 - LOVE

I'm a hopeless romantic!  I believe in a true, meaningful, deep, all encompassing love.  I believe that this love can connect people in ways they may never have thought possible.  For so long, I never thought I'd find love like that, then I met my son...now I understand true love.  It can make you cry, laugh and can bring a peace that can still the soul.  I hope to someday find that love with a handsome, humble and honest man...someday.  Today however, get swept up in love!  For those of you who may be single, I know this may lead to depression...but don't let it!  Just appreciate the possibility of it or take time to recognize it in the existing relationships you are in.  :)  Love you guys!

June 7 - Brush Your Teeth

Haha, I was having a hard time figuring out songs for a Tuesday challenge and remembered this Raffi song that I heard more times than I cared to, all about brushing teeth.  So here you go, the day 7 challenge.  Why is brushing your teeth a LIVING LIFE challenge?  Well did you know that poor oral hygiene can literally take years off your life?  Oh yeah, it's true!  Check out this dentist talking about the importance...



Crazy right?!?!  Well, today make an appointment to get your teeth cleaned and take time to floss, brush your teeth and use your mouth rinse!

Late Post for June 6th

I'm so sad I didn't post something sooner.  Today was going to be such a fun challenge.  I was going to tell a story about the time I tried to say Hello to everyone I passed on the street & subway in New York, but I ended up stopping when this crazy asked me to marry him.  HAHAHA!!  Anyways, I love this Beatles song and I would LOVE to hear your stories if you participated in today's challenge.

June 4 - Face a Challenge/Fear

I served an LDS mission in Brazil quite a few years ago and I remember this one horrific night.  Now, you have to know that I have a phobia of creepy, crawly things and that includes frogs.  Well, I was in a particularly wet area of Brazil for the space of three months.  There was tall grass every where and whenever it rained, the frogs came out of the grass and would take their chances on the street.  One night we were walking home and the rain was coming down so hard!  We were soaked through and there were SO many frogs.  I'd never really understood the affects of fear till that night.  A car had zoomed passed us, scaring all of the frogs onto the sidewalk...I stood frozen in my spot as numerous frogs bounced off my legs.  All I could do was stand there and cry, it was so ridiculous!

And yet, I couldn't let the fear go and move my feet again.  Rather than laugh at me or downplay my fear, my mission companion Sister Barros took my hand and told me to keep my eyes closed.  She guided me the mile and a half home, telling me when to step down or up, when to turn, when to pause or when a car was coming.  She sang songs in between her instructions to keep my mind off of what was happening.  The full affects of her kindness didn't sink in till we had gotten home, safe and sound.  I will never forget that, that night she helped me face a fear.

There are so many things that can keep us stuck in one place...a fear of the unknown or maybe you have faced the challenge before and failed...so why would this time be different?  Today, just try...try to face that challenge or fear.  There is no harm in trying and if you can't do it alone, like I couldn't with the frogs...find a friend to help.

Depending on my mood, the lyrics to Coldplay's Lost come to mean two different things, for today's challenge I wanted to focus on these lyrics:
